A Support System for Suicide Prevention

This week another young person chose to leave this planet by taking his own life. The world mourns with Delilah, the Love radio host, and her family for the sudden loss of Zachariah, her son. This is an everyday occurrence in our world, people who just can’t see past the pain or the increasing hopelessness they face day after day. This year alone we have lost many well known individuals who either chose suicide, or chose drugs to ease the pain, and left their loved ones grieving and wondering what I could have done differently. This issue is close to my heart since I have struggled with my own grief around suicide, and I can tell you one of my first Astrology teachers saved my life by teaching me how the planetary movements were impacting me at the time and when the storm would pass and some peace would return.

This subject has been on my long list of topics to write about and offer some Universal assistance to those struggling with suicide and for families and friends dealing with the threat of suicide by their loved ones. The statistics for death by suicide have been increasing. Access to appropriate treatment is a significant contributing factor in overcoming these statistics:

  • 24% increase in US suicides from 1999 to 2016

  • 43% increase in suicides of middle age men

  • 200% increase in suicide rate for young females, ages 10 to 14

  • Second leading cause of death of teenagers

(Reported by the US Center for Disease Control and Prevention)

For the last couple of years, I’ve been privileged to review Astrology natal charts for teenagers who were either struggling with suicidal tendencies or who were unable to prevent their suicide on their own. All of these situations have been heartbreaking. The battle is forceful and there seems to be no end in sight for the excruciating depression and when the Light at the end of the tunnel just doesn’t present. The families and friends are in despair seeking ways to help these vulnerable individuals find a path that leads them out of the hopelessness.

The piece of the healing I was to able to offer is a review of the natal planetary aspects that combine very assertive and disciplined challenges impacting them personally, and the planetary transits in the sky occurring at the time. The most helpful piece that Astrology provides for these individuals and families is a timeframe when they can expect some relief from the fiery strain of holding the difficult issues and allowing the time to move forward and away from the direct strike of the planetary energies pulling an individual away from the reality they’ve known so far in this life. During these significant periods, the hopelessness can overwhelm.

The truth is “All Things Are Energy”, therefore, understanding the influence of the celestial and earthly elements and the constant flow of the energy impacting our daily life, can be the salve that offers life-affirming comfort, and support through the toughest times. The easiest way to understand the connection between Astrology and helping to move past the most difficult situations is Astrology provides a definite prescription for “This Shall Pass Too”, and the motion of the planets in real time provides a date when the toughest challenge will ease up and allow for relief and life can move forward. Granted ongoing monitoring and counseling is best to continue.

Another factor impacting the teenagers of today is a planetary pattern at the time of their birth which results in a compounded challenge in addition to the usual teenager maturity aspects of life. My sister once told me when teenagers turn 14, they become aliens. What she didn’t know is that at the age of fourteen and every 14 years thereafter, there is a major maturing aspect that presents in all astrological designs. Think about what might have been happening in your own life at the ages of 14, 28-30, 42-44, 56-60, 70-72…

These young folks now traversing the tender teenage years are also dealing with the fiery transformative energy of Pluto. All bets are off about how that plays out in individual lives. However, an acceptance that Astrology can assist with the healing, and a review of the natal chart can be a good chance to bring life back into balance.
